The Performing Arts Program at Foothill Preparatory School is designed to empower aspiring artists by
equipping them with the tools and environment needed to thrive creatively while leveraging their talents for success in the
competitive landscape of college and conservatory application process and beyond. This specialized program fosters students’
unique abilities in a supportive and inclusive setting, encouraging them to explore and develop their artistic potential.
The program also provides pathways for students to enrich their education at esteemed institutions, including the Colburn Community School
of Performing Arts (CSPA) and various universities.
Foothill Preparatory School’s Performing Arts Program is led by Director Shirley Wang,
an accomplished and dynamic operatic soprano. She recieved her vocal performance degree from the University of Southern California. Ms.
Wang has graced the stages of numerous local and regional theaters across Southern California, portraying iconic roles such as
Aida, the Countess (Le Nozze di Figaro), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Alice Ford (Falstaff), Violetta (La Traviata), Cio-Cio San
(Madama Butterfly), Mimì (La Bohème), Tosca, Liù (Turandot), Nedda (Pagliacci), Marguerite (Faust), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel),
and Laetitia (The Old Maid and the Thief).
Beyond her celebrated opera career, Ms. Wang is a multifaceted artist—an author, podcaster, pianist, educator, and music influencer—who is
deeply committed to inspiring and nurturing the next generation of performers. In addition to her work on stage, Ms. Wang serves as a
professional college advisor, specializing in talent-based programs for students with exceptional abilities.
Students in the program have the opportunity to work with distinguished musical figures such as Bill Schuman, Kristof Van Grysperre,
George Martynuk, Valerian Ruminski, Mark Oswald, Nathan Wang, Agatha Hou, Gregory Buchalter, Rose Kingsley and more. They also
participate in masterclasses, workshops, and seminars with prestigious institutions, including The Juilliard School, Manhattan
School of Music, University of Southern California, University of California, Los Angeles, Berklee College of Music, Colburn School of
Music, Azusa Pacific University,
and more.

Additionally, we have programs for students interested in traditional Chinese instruments: Pipa, Guzheng, Erhu, Yangqin and Guqin are encouraged to apply. Students with a background in other Chinese instruments are also welcome to apply. We have access to additional faculty members in the community.
