CONGRATULATIONS ARIELLE!

Congratulations to Arielle Li, who has become the first student from Foothill Preparatory School to have been selected to attend both the 2019 summer seminar at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis Maryland and the 2019 summer program at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado. Arielle has chosen to attend the program at the Naval Academy.

Thousands of high school juniors apply each year for one of these coveted spots at the military academies, but less than 1,000 are chosen for the prestigious Summer Leaders Experience at the Naval Academy. All attendees will live in the cadet barracks, eat in the Cadet Mess, and participate in academic, leadership, athletic, and military workshops. The one-week seminar is designed to help juniors with their college-selection process while giving them an idea of the importance of leadership and sound decision-making in their education, careers and lives in general.

These academies are looking for students who are both well rounded and high achievers. As a student at Foothill Prep., Arielle has taken 6 AP courses, and has received the AP scholarship award, she has served on both student council and yearbook committee for 3 years, plus additional other clubs.

Arielle’s off campus extra activities include: member of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Explorer Leadership program, training in boxing and kickboxing, playing golf and taking lessons from a PGA instructor, practicing piano and much more.

Arielle received a recommendation for the school to take college courses while in high school, to date she has taken 14 college courses for college credit. No wonder these two academies thought she was a high achiever and well rounded.

Congratulations to Arielle on this outstanding achievement! Our school is extremely proud of her acceptance into these prestigious programs.

ALUMNI TESTIMONY

FPS was my first taste of American education, and the high school experience not only influenced my higher education but also profoundly shaped my study habits. The English, Spanish and Bible classes I took in FPS deeply affected my future education. FPS’s emphasis on the fundamentals of education helped me to develop a good foundation in terms of reading and writing, which is essential in almost every working fields. My English teacher gave me a lot of extra help once she discovered my passion for writing. She was also the one who lead me into the literature world.

With the help of FPS, I was accepted by several colleges. I finally chose the University of Washington, double majored in Communication and Cinema Studies. After my graduation from UW, I continued my graduate study at the USC School of Cinematic of Arts. I am now working for a US-China Entertainment company as a film distribution assistant. Looking back at my life, FPS had played an important role. The classes and teachers back in FPS trained me to a good writer, a patient reader, and an active thinker. Also, the friendships and bonds I made at FPS are everlasting. I am still closely connected with several friends and teachers at FPS because they are family to me. I feel so blessed studying in FPS not only because of the excellent education but also for the friendly environment and beautiful memories.
